Lake City Christian Church

For two years, MRJ worked with Lake City Christian Church’s construction committee and Shugart Bates Architects to design a building to meet the aggressive budget goals of the church. After multiple design concepts, the final scope of work included the demolition of an existing three story 7,000 square feet education wing, keeping the basement intact and constructing a new 8,000 square feet expanded sanctuary, narthex, kitchen, lobby, and new restrooms over the existing basement. Following the completion of the first phase the existing 6,000 square feet sanctuary was remodeled into new offices, child care, and youth meeting facilities.

After the existing structure was demolished down to the basement level, pin pilings were driven to support the new foundation as well as to reinforce much of the existing foundation. The new sanctuary structure itself was wood-framed using engineered wood studs of lengths up to 32 feet. Site improvements included pervious concrete paving which eliminated the need for an expensive underground storm-water containment system.
