Hamlin Robinson Playfield and Parking Garage structure
MRJ was selected to build Hamlin Robinson School’s new parking structure and playground. The building is located across the street from their new home next to the I-5/I-90 Interchange in North Beacon Hill and adds about 5700 SF of AstroTurf playfield and 3800 SF of new asphalt playground.
The eastern half consists of a two-story structure with a seventeen-stall underground parking garage. On top of the garage is a 8” post tension concrete deck and a brand new turf field on top of the deck. The western half includes a surface level asphalt playground complete with foursquare and pickle-ball courts, a utility building, two bathrooms and a storage room. TJI wood roof joists will span over the rooms and will support an outdoor pedestal paver play area. The extent of the sitework included new landscaping, vegetated green walls and new sidewalks.
In order to make room for the new structure, MRJ had to demolish three existing buildings and perform extensive excavation and clearing of the existing site. Limited access inside the building footprint required thorough coordination to install forty-five auger-cast piles that were drilled 35-40’ down below the finish grade. MRJ has continually coordinated with members of the school coordinate around and to minimize and impacts on student drop off and pick up times.
